This old world is a new world.

Music is a powerful tool. It can heighten every emotion in you, pick you up when you feel low or help relinquish your anger. It’s amazing how hearing the right song can completely turn your day around. That’s how I felt when Muse – I’m feeling good came on the radio on the way into work this morning. It picked me up a little and encouraged me to “feel good”.

Music can be used in so many ways; to manipulate you into feeling sad- Think about the last film that made you cry, I bet a song was being played just as you started to cry. Listen to the music used on adverts, depending on what they are selling and how they want you to feel will be obvious from the choice of song. Songs can make you feel brave, courageous, happy, awesome, angry, tearful, pretty much any emotion! Below are a few of my top picks! (They change frequently!)

My top 10 pick me up/make me wanna sing songs:

  1. ELO – Mr Blue Sky

  7. Katy Perry – ‘The One That Got Away’
  8. The National – About Today
  9. The Verve – The Drugs Don’t Work
  10. Britney Spears – Everytime

  2. Imagine Dragons – Believer
  3. Papa Roach – Last Resort
  4. Papa Roach – Scars
  5. Sara Bareilles – Brave
  6. Lauren Alaina – Road less traveled

So, as you will see my music taste varies… alot. I’m not one for rap, house or classical but I’ll give any genre a chance. Music is such a powerful tool, they are starting to believe it could cure a multitude of ills.

If you’re feeling down in the dumps put on your favourite song as loud as you can, block out the world for a few minutes and I promise you will start to feel a little better.
